  1. to run fast?
  2. Low gearing equals quick acceleration, high gearing allows decent speeds on the freeway and a higher top speed. I'll take the ability to run under 3,000rpm at 70mph any day over a quicker 0-60 time.
  3. a 4:10 gear ratio will give you faster acceleration off the line than a 3:55 will get you like on a mustang.
  4. depends on what kind of driving you plan to do with it. If you want to drive flat out down the freeway and try to see what kind of high score you can get on the speeding ticket meter....high gears are the ticket. Higher gear ratios will give you less on the bottem end, but will give you better top end(assuming you don't have a governer to cut the engine out) and...more importantly- better fuel economy in most cases. Low gears are great for an exhibition driving ticket(you can burn the tires off way easier) and you can really fire quick out of the stop lights in city traffic. But, fuel economy suffers if you drive a longer distance with your high horsepower engine screaming(and sucking gobs of gas down and not doing anything productive with it)
  5. it depends on what you are doing with it... if you are drag racing than defiantly go for bigger gears.... if you are going for distance races go a little lower.... if it is a daily driver go for low gears or you will feel it in gas milage...
