Can I shift into Sports mode while in Drive?

In many cars now, in addition to the drive mode in the gear shift there is a sport mode. Can I shift to sport and back while I'm moving or do I have to apply the brakes and stop first before shifting to sport mode? So the Sport mode is different from the rest of the modes on the gear shift like Drive, Reverse, and Neutral where I do have to put my foot on the brakes first?

2. You can do it while you drive. Usually it just makes your car upshift slower.
