- check your speedometer cable that is attached to your transmission.
- Need to know make, model and year of the car. If you are driving a vehicle with a dial-type speedometer chances are likely that the dial is linked by a cable that spins. The cable linkage may be broken. Replace with a new cable linkage. If you have a speedometer that gives an LCD readout, the connection is electronic. If that's the case you may need to replace the sensor or the entire LCD unit. Check fuses first. Either way I recommend going to dealer service department. It might be covered by warranty. Also, you might check your public library and check Mitchell Repair Guide for your particular vehicle. There may be a trouble shooting guide addressing speedometer problems. Also look for possible recalls for the problem.
