Would opening my own martial arts sports store be profitable?
I live in Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK and there are no really good sports stores in the city that I know of. There is a great combat accersories place in Leeds (next city) but nothing in Bradford. I would love to open a small business that speicialises in gear from all around the world. Costs of starting, shipping, insurance, good business sence etc....what are the things I would need to even begin such a task? Ta.

- location, location, location.
- I honestly don't think any store would be profitable with the economy in the shape that it is. Keep the idea in mind and wait a few years.

- Test your market. Build yourself a free website - www.freewebs.com Add sports equiptment through a drop shipper (they purchase from you then your shipper takes over - you make a small percentage) Shift your inventory to see what works best. Advertise in a local gym, newsletters, flyers, talking..... This way you don't need to get licensed, insurance, anything until you know it will work. Consider reading - the four hour work week by Timothy Ferris and Millionaire Maker by Loral Langemeire Both books have good suggestions on starting a new businesss and how to test your market. Additonally look into Guerrila Marketing for Free for ways to advertise for nothing. Best of Luck.
