How do you get your own designed T-shirts made and copyrighted?

A friend of mine wants to get some T-shirts made of her original art and design that she wants to sell. Where can she get some good qualilty ones made and also, how does she get her design ideas copyrighted? What company do you contact that will print the original design on some T-shirts?--not just a t-shirt with some words printed on it, but a shirt with an original design / drawing.
