Any ideas on a good cleaner for white socks and t-shirts?
My boyfriend is a mechanic so his socks and white t-shirts get very dirty with grease and what-ever else and i have a problem getting them to come decently white. I've used bleach and it doesn't really help. I'm not really sure what else to try, so any suggestions would be really helpful. thanks

- ,use ammonia.
- oxyclean! Oxyclean (Sodium Percarbonate) actually turns into hydrogen peroxide when dissolved in the water, and really does a good job of whitening whites. Before you go to bed, fill the washer with HOT water and add 4-5 scoops of Oxy to the water and let agitate for a few minutes. Add the dirty whites and let agitate for another 5 minutes, then shut off the machine and let it soak overnight. In the morning, add regular bleach and washing detergent, as well as 1/2 cup of borox (40 mule team borox sold in most supermarkets) As a final option, you can add blueing, also found in most supermarkets by the laundry supplies, to the final rinse as per instructions on the bottle. On another note, I make my own washing detergent at home using a bar of fells naptha, 1 cup of borox, and 1 cup of washing soda mixed in with 5 gallons of boiling water. Works better than any of the store bought detergents at keeping my whites white!
- Ask a familar question just like yours. Someone wrote Peroxide.... I notice bleach workes okay but if you pour to much it eates up the clothes making holes.... ----------------------------------------- One thing i like best on the whites is Foca it mexican brand detergrant but i notice it comes way much cleaner than tide... ----------------------------------------- Make sure you have the water set for hot and re-wash the load. You can also use a wooden scrubing brush for selections of the clothes.
- Well 2 thing´s you can try. 1 for sure you can find this soap in any hardware store. The good old fashioned bar soap. ( Natural Soap). 2 if you can find a product called Dr Beckmanns, This comes in powder form or a stick, the stick is for removing on the spot stains like ink . With the natural soap. if you soak your husband´s white clothes in cold water. Leave the soap on for 1/2 hr and the clothes free from water. Back to the cold water and give a rinse. This time rub in more soap but leave the soap on and pop the clothes into your washing machine on a 40ºc normal wash cycle. Now hang the clothes outside in the sun. The sun will bleach out any remaining stains the natural way and leave your husband´s and your whites whiter than white. But if you find the other product I mentioned, This will remove all the stains in the wash
- Try Borox.
- I have found if you want your white clothes to stay looking white or white towels for that matter, pour in a cup to a cup and a half of peroxide. Just the regular kind that you can buy at any drug store. It's cheap too. I've been using it along with my detergent and all fab bleach and my whites look really white. As far as the grease stains go you might try looking for some spot remover that says it is a degreaser. I've also heard that "dawn" dishsoap put on grease stains takes grease out too. Good Luck!
- try borax and ur soap liquid. i read bleach just makes yellow stains on t-shirts. i'm allergic to bleach so i never use it. good luck
- i discovered oxiclean two years ago. a scoop in a load of laundry is all you need. good luck.
