How do I go about creating graphics for T-shirts?

I have never done this before and would like to give it a shot. What software and etc do I need to create graphics and how do I use it?

1. Best software to use in my opinion would be Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator. Depending on what kinda of shirts you want to do I recommend tons of sketches --> scanning and then getting to coloring, painting or vectoring (Illustrator) things in! Thing is since your starting out at first to try to keep things simple! and just have fun with it!!!
