only 56,000 miles, oils fine, trani fluids fine, after awhile it ran fine again, obviously its the trans right?what would cause it to do this?and could it be something else?electrical?trans cooler lines?after gear slip, pulled over, car wouldnt start, after a couple hours it started and ran fine.

  1. does it stall out? or does it just slip out of gear and sit in neutral, meaning you can rev the engine ect. and this is an automatic? if you've checked the trans fluid. If its stalling out it could be the fuel pump or regulator. Edit: wouldnt the timing off cause it to run rough from the getgo? even after the waiting a couple hours.
  2. sounds like your timing is off, or slipping. have the belt replaced. sure you can adjust it, but for not even 20 more you can replace it and not have to worry about it for alot longer. plus when you adjust them instead of replacing them, if not done properly it can cause more problems than it fixes.
  3. 1994, it is now 2008 you are at a point where planned obsolesence is going to cascade into more problems. Systems for cars are more interconected now a days than ever before. One system will effect another. Did you buy it new or used? You need to take it to a dealer and have a systems check run, diagnostics hook up to get an idea as to just exactly what is no longer functioning as it should. They have electronics that control the majority of your automatic drive train. Cars are not built to last! They make new ones every year. Your ride is cycling down and maintenance and up keep will sting. Hell maintenace and up keep stings period. You might consider what kind of deal you can make with Carmax. If you have the pockets it may be new car time. Was it a garaged Intrepid or was it out in the elements under your stewardship? Intermitant outages, will get worse and fixing it will ,depending on how long you let it be will only get more expensive. They don't make them where the owners can do it them selves very easily any more either.
