To all you firefighters out there – what type of gear would you like as a gift? ?
My brother-in-law is a firefighter and I’d like to get him some cool gear. I know nothing about firefighting. I saw some suggestions of helmet lamps and extrication gloves. Would you be stoked to get either of those? Please help!

- it's really hard to find a good gift that he would use... Most of the things he should already have.... My dad has been a firefighter sense I was 2 and I'm almost there... Maybe get him something that's fire fighting related??? That's what my mom normally got my dad... Like shirts from other fire departments??? But if u do get him something like a helmit light make sure it's not cheap and crappy... The last thing you want in a fire is shot that doesn't work... Good luck and marry christmas
- I'd prefer to get something that I wasn't going to be using on calls. Everything you use on scene has to be really what you want. There are a lot of variations on every piece of equipment that can affect whether he will be comfortable using it or not. Tools are chosen based on personal preference. Not one tool will work for every one. For example, helmet lights are about as varied as can be. They range from 20 bucks to hundreds of dollars. I use one on the cheap side (30-40 bucks) but it is exactly what I need. Low profile, under brim, tail cap switch. Other guys like the Streamlight's for 150 but to me they look like a snag waiting to happen. Extrication gloves are often supplied by the department and if they are not he most likely has gotten them himself if he does enough extrication work to warrant having them. Like the guy above me said- he's probably got everything he could want after doing it for so long. I'd suggest something other than tools. T-shirts, memorabilia, collectors items, something like that. I'd appreciate something like that over any tool. Good luck.
