  1. http://www.safetycentral.com/coboxpobaopr.html I have this battery operated personal air conditioner.
  2. someone I know got a solar powered backpack that charges stuff like his phone and everything while he is walking.
  3. metal detecter gyger counter large knives a boat horn whoopy cusions..several fart bombs camera to take pictures of your scout master really screwing up
  4. Save your pennies and buy a night vision scope. Now you can watch all the animals that come at night to raid your camp sight.
  5. Block and tackle. You can just pick up at any decent hardware store and they are definitely fun to play with at camp. You can set one up in a tree and easily hoist yourself up the tree. I set one up at a Boy Scout camp once and could not keep everyone away. Excellent teaching opportunity too.
  6. fire works Portable shower thing toilet fart bombs stink bombs a blow up guitar drum sticks i pod a scary mask to scare the kids big boots
  7. Miminum gear. Tarp that folds for ground sheet, weather wall, and waterproof low roof angled down toward Indian- size fire. 50 feet of sheathed 11mm cord. 6 plastic stakes. You do all eating and drinking 100 feet downhill from sleep area or you'll have visitors that bite. Try Mil-Spec MRE available 12 to a case; you warm each meal under your armpit. The powdered drinks need potable water but otherwise it is good to go anyplace on the planet. Sleep in something rated for weather you'll be in. Deet products should replace deodorants. Pack out all your waste; this includes the piss and poo in a sealed 5 gallon bucket with carry handle. You can lift the lid later when folks ask you how the camping went. One look is worth a 1000 words.
  8. You can always spend money on something super durable and yet super lightweight. Ultralight gear is really expensive. Most people consider this "cool gear" even if they don't use it, although some people consider it kind of unnecessary, and it is. The point of this stuff is to reduce your pack weight so you can have more fun hiking, but many who say they need UL gear are just taking too much unnecessary junk with them. So...it is up to you. Unlike lots of technology, I really don't notice prices coming down on these products, so if you see a neat thing that is cutting edge, you can probably just go ahead and get it. You can get some performance clothing. Special fabrics that work really well outdoors. Some of these are high tech and some are old school. It may help you get rid of sweat, stay warm, keep dry. There is even some clothing that is woven so tight the bugs can't bite through it. If you don't already have a good piece of rain gear, that is an excellent place to start, then get some good performance underwear that either keeps you warm, or dry, such as UnderArmor or something in wool, fleece, down, or silk. You can also get some travel pants with zip legs, or whatever. Camping clothing is fun. Again not needed, and most people just wear their old grubbies, but there are times when you need special protection. You can also get some maps and compass, a GPS, other orienteering stuff. You can get field guides, little pocket sized books to help you study up on birds, flowers, animals, bugs, trees. Photography equipment is one of the few electronics that most people think enhances camping, instead of detracting from it. Get a really nice digital camera and a case. You can get a little ukelele, or a harmonica, or a recorder...all tiny musical instruments that travel well. You can get cool cookware, or dishes. Titanium is really awesome for silverware and pans. Lexan is an unbreakable plastic for dishes and water bottles (nalgene bottles are made of this). Or you can get a cool new camping stove or fire making item like a sparking device like a steel striker. OR something that is collapsible. You can get some primitive woodworking tools. You can get a travel hammock to sleep in. You can also get stuff like duck calls and special whistles like the hunters use. Just be careful not to attract any predators!
  9. Brunton Fire Steel....It produces a huge plume of sparks and is fun for fire starting.
  10. Do yourself a favor and learn how to properly sharpen a knife... its relaxing and always cool to have a shaaaaaarp knife 1 sharpening stone double grit... the bigger the better about med size 1 ceramic sharpener 1piece of leather(strop) you can use any lil container for water keep it in a little bag or backpack EVERYONE appreciates someone who can sharpen a knife and its not as easy or boring as you might think... you can shave the hair off your arm if you get good
