  1. This is a question for a patent, copyright, and trakemark attorney. I don't believe copyright would apply unless you write all the jokes yourself and there was not anyone who has previously told that joke and could claim it was their own words. Even then copyright may or may not apply. An example is the guy, can't remember his name, who announced at boxing matches and he would introduce the boxers and before the match he would say something which rhymes with "Let's get betty to tumble." Well, he had his phrase as a registered trademark, and no one else could say it as an announcer. Also, not wanting to get myself in any trouble I came up with something that rhymes with it, so as not to use his registered trademark myself.
  2. Its too easy to steal or rework content. Brand and trademark them instead if you seek the ultimate protection. Copyright is implicit with creation of the material. All anyone has to do is rewrite the joke in their own words. Remember the Big Johnson t-shirts? They have consistent branding and a punch line that can be trademarked.
